National Sign Company Continues “Right Sizing”

Kieffer | Starlite (Palmyra, NJ), a national sign company that entered bankruptcy earlier this year, has sold its North Carolina subsidiary to a local buyer.

Allen Industries (Greensboro, NC) has acquired Burton Signs (Mount Airy, NC), a deal that comes about three and a half years after Kieffer | Starlite first acquired the shop, The Mount Airy News reports.

Burton Signs will be the seventh location for Allen Industries, a fourth-generation company with operations in North Carolina, Florida, Arizona and Ohio. The company told the newspaper that it plans to add employees and “bring back the numbers and culture of the former Burton Electric Signs/Burton Signworks.”

Burton Signs was founded in 1983 by Wayne Burton, who started as a one-man shop before building it up to 75 employees at one point, the article adds. He then sold his business in 2007, working there until his retirement in 2010.

Kieffer | Starlite announced in November of last year that it was “right sizing” its operations, which included the shuttering of all production facilities except for the Mount Airy operation and another in Sheboygan, WI.

It then entered receivership earlier this year before it was acquired by PSCO Global Group, the parent of Philadelphia Sign, in April. The company has since been rebranded to PSCO Kieffer.
