Sign Research Foundation Explores Smart Signs in New Report

The Sign Research Foundation has released a new report exploring the potential uses for smart signs in cities and how to prepare for their integration in communities.

The report, titled “Smart Signage and Smart Cities: Regulating New Tech,” provides best practices for data collection and transparency, particularly as signs evolve from providing information to aggregating and gathering it.

Smart signs will incorporate technology that could be used to update users’ smart devices with information. However, that could create new challenges for communities by raising new regulatory and privacy concerns. To that end, the document includes guidance for how communities can integrate smart technologies with their sign ordinances.

The research report is available for $29.99, and a related executive summary is available for $14.99. Both the full report and the summary can be found at signresearch.org/smart-cities.
