Dodgers international scout Jairo Castillo has died due to complications from contracting COVID-19.
Castillo is the second Dodgers scout to die in recent days. Long-time amateur scout Lon Joyce passed away last week.
Castillo, 31, was signed by the New York Mets as a 16-year-old from San Cristobal in the Dominican Republic. He played three seasons in the Dominican and Venezuelan Summer Leagues in the New York Mets’ system before going into scouting.
Castillo worked for the Toronto Blue Jays and Milwaukee Brewers as a scout before joining the Dodgers’ organization. He was working as a crosschecker in his native Dominican Republic for the Dodgers. He is survived by a wife and two children. A GoFundMe account has been set up to help Castillo’s family.
