UCLA quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson remained active and ready with the possibility of college football returning to the West Coast.
Thompson-Robinson and his teammates returned to the Wasserman Center on Friday for the program’s first day of training camp, almost a week after the Pac-12 announced its schedule on Oct. 3.
“After all the days of quarantine … Fall camp is here and we’ve been waiting for a while now,” the junior said on a Zoom video call after practice.
While other Power 5 conferences have already played multiple games, the Bruins will kick off a seven-game, conference-only schedule on Nov. 7, on the road against Colorado.
Thompson-Robinson has spent the last seven months with family and exploring other resources to prepare.
“I would fly to Dallas to work with my quarterback coach every other week and boxing with my brother to get some conditioning in,” he said.

“He worked extremely hard during the offseason,” UCLA coach Chip Kelly said on Wednesday.
Thompson-Robinson will lead an offense that has seen a slight improvement in production each season under Kelly.
The offense ranked eighth among Pac-12 teams in scoring with 26.7 points per game last season, after finishing 11th with 24.6 ppg in 2018.
Despite the departure of some key pieces offensively, Thompson-Robinson believes the offense won’t change drastically from previous seasons.
“I can’t give away too much information,” he said. “Coach Kelly has given us the keys to the castle and a lot of freedom.”For a program that was considered one of the youngest rosters in Division I last season, the early experience has helped new faces assume leadership roles.
The offense has three sophomores returning as starters, including offensive linemen Sean Rhyan and Duke Clemens and receiver Kyle Phillips.
Philips was the Bruins’ leading receiver in 2019 with 681 yards. Redshirt senior Demetric Felton was third in receiving yards but could see most of his production out of the backfield this season as the lead back to replace Joshua Kelley.
